River Road is a very easy DS ride on some paved and dirt roads from Salida to Vallie Bridge near Coaldale and return on River Road or the Powerline Road.

The ride is mostly easy county dirt roads, with a short section of Highway 50. An alternate return on the Powerline Road is more difficult, with some easy climbs, rocky sections, and a creek crossing - just enough to make it more interesting than the river section near Howard. The Powerline Road is shown on the map for the Wellsville North area.

The very last section south of Highway 50 and Salida is optional. This section known locally as the Burmac Road is shown on the map for the Salida South area.

The total riding mileage is about:
Salida to Vallie Bridge and return same way - 40 miles
Salida to Howard and return on Powerline Road - 36 miles
Add Burmac Road south of Highway 50 - 8.1 miles.

The map shows the routes. Click the map to see a larger jpg version (print for reference).

GPX files will be available soon.

DIRECTIONS: From Highway 291 just west of the Salida city limits, turn north onto CR 175. Follow the maps or GPX tracks on your GPS receiver.
